George Floyd’s death at the hands of a white police officer in the USA, on May 25, sparked outrage and protests in America. The outrage wasn’t just limited to America, and people all over the world expressed their rage at the blatant disregard for black lives. In the US, people flooded the streets supporting the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and demanding justice for George Floyd. Amidst all this, an Indian-American Rahul Dubey became an overnight hero after he welcomed protestors into his house to protect them from being arrested. Netizens applauded him for his heroic act, and his name was soon trending on social media.

As per a report in BBC, Rahul Dubey opened his doors and sheltered 80 protestors in his house in Washington DC to ensure they weren’t arrested after the police imposed a curfew.  As per reports, Dubey waved them in and welcomed the protestors. People who took shelter in Dubey’s house tweeted about it and shared videos too. In one of the videos shared, Dubey appears to clarify that he opened his door voluntarily and that it was okay if people have to stay overnight at his place.

Soon after, Twitterati hailed him a hero and praised him for his selfless act. However, Dubey said he didn’t think he did anything special.

In fact, praising the protestors, Dubey told ABC news channel WJLA, “I hope that my 13-year-old son grows up to be just as amazing as they are.”
